SAVE A FAILING IMPLANT
LASER TREATMENT OF FAILING IMPLANT
Protect your implant investment, stop progression of disease, destroy bacteria causing inflammation, save healthy gum tissue, and encourage new bone growth.
What is LAPIP
LAPIP is the procedure used to treat peri-implantitis or implant failure. The laser destroys bacteria within the first 6mm of the laser tip. The implant is cleaned with ultrasonic instruments. The laser is then used to seal the space between the gum and the implant.
How Long Does It Take?
The length of treatment depends whether or not sedation is required. Treatment takes anywhere from 25 minutes to 1 hour.
What is Peri-Implantitis
Implant failure or peri-implantitis is an inflammatory reaction (infection) that causes the loss of bone around a dental implant. When an implant loses bone and is not treated, the implant will be need to be removed.
What Causes Peri-Implantitis?
Just as there are many causes of gum disease, there are many causes of peri-implant infections including poor oral care and grinding your teeth. Risk factors include medical issues such as diabetes, osteoporosis, and a poor immune system. Smokers and patients with an initial diagnosis of gum disease are at higher risk of implant loss.
